This narrow view ignores the tectonic shift AI demands of enterprise risk frameworks. LLM cybersecurity and AI system risk management are not interchangeable concepts—they are interdependent layers of defense. One guards against targeted technical assaults; the other fortifies organizations against systemic collapse. Understanding their symbiosis is the difference between adopting AI and mastering it.
I. The Battlefield: Defining the Domains
A. LLM Cybersecurity: The Tactical Frontline
Large language models face uniquely sophisticated attack vectors rooted in their linguistic capabilities. These are not traditional software vulnerabilities but emergent threats born from how LLMs ingest, process, and generate language:

2. Elevate Governance Beyond Compliance
- Assign C-suite ownership of AI risk (e.g., Chief AI Ethics Officer).
- Implement dynamic impact assessments that evolve with models post-deployment.
3. Cultivate Cross-Disciplinary Vigilance
- Train ML engineers in ethical implications; equip compliance teams with technical literacy.
- Integrate SOC dashboards with bias detection tools (e.g., IBM’s AI Fairness 360).
4. Plan for Failure
- Red-team beyond cybersecurity: “How could this model fail societally?”
- Design audit trails for explainability (e.g., tracking why a loan application was denied).
